Our story
Freeland was created for one reason: to give people a place to buy and sell without the weight of transaction fees.
How it all began
Freeland started with a simple moment of frustration. I was trying to sell something on eBay and realized that after all the fees, I would actually lose money. That didn’t feel right—and it actually stopped me from selling online all together. Over time, what began as a small annoyance grew into a clear realization: stopping online selling isn’t the solution. The real solution is fixing the broken system that makes selling online so costly for everyday people.
As marketplaces kept raising fees with no alternative in sight, the idea that eventually became Freeland started to take shape. If no zero-fee marketplace existed… why not build one?
The Mission
Freeland exists to give people a fair, free, and functional way to trade with one another online. Millions of people are sitting on valuable items they no longer need, while also facing financial pressure—yet selling online has become increasingly expensive because of unnecessary transaction fees.
Our mission is to remove that barrier entirely.
If Freeland succeeds, the impact will be massive: millions (if not more) of dollars flowing directly into the hands of people instead of platforms, and millions of products being reused, repurposed, and appreciated instead of wasted. Freeland isn’t here to build another big business—it’s here to solve a real problem.
Community is everything
Freeland is built for the people who feel the pain of fees every day: frustrated sellers who are currently listing on platforms like eBay and Etsy, as well as those who stopped selling altogether because the costs outweighed the rewards.
Our earliest community members are small online shop owners, creators, resellers, and everyday people who sell a handful of items each year—but care about getting fair value for their work and belongings.
And ultimately, Freeland is nothing without them. The platform is just the framework—the real power comes from the people who choose to fill it, shape it, and bring it to life. The community is the marketplace, and without them, Freeland simply wouldn’t exist.
Who am I?
I am just an an ordinary person with a passion for solving this problem. I live in Massachusetts with my wife, two daughters, and two dogs. I worked in e-commerce for over 10 years so fortunately (or unfortunately) understand many of the pain points associated with selling online, and can hopefully help to solve them! This project is sort of in "stealth mode" as I do currently have a day job, but I am excited to come out from behind the curtains someday when it makes sense.
